Good Luck Wedding Chapter 017 – The Elder Wangfei

The two of them leisurely went through Zhaohe Main Street; meanwhile, people around them gathered curiously on both sides of the street to watch, but did not get too close. They only sized up those two people with curious eyes and whispered to each other.

The people had too many doubts.

Was Prince Yong'an’s life in danger? What happened to this legs? Could he still be healed?

And who was this handsome young man pushing the Prince’s wheelchair? What was he doing?

But although there were many questions, no one dared to approach and ask. Even though many of them were indeed concerned about Prince Yong’an’s condition, they hoped that War God of Beizhao could live a long life and be in good health, so that he could beat those rampant Xihuang people back to their home base and make them never dare to cross the border again.

After all, Prince Yong'an looked truly fearsome.

Nobody would dare to mess with him.

Ye Yunting saw these people following one another, surrounded by muffled conversations. But no one dared to speak out and ask, which only demonstrated just how much power and authority Prince Yong’an had previously accumulated.

He glanced down at the expressionless Li Fengqi, and quietly held back the smile on his lips. He thought to himself that this man wasn’t actually that fierce; he just looked scary when his face was expressionless.

The two of them went outside the city under the eyes of many spectators, but more and more people came after hearing the news. The people who arrived later squeezed against the people in front, surging forward like waves of water. An elderly woman was pushed and shoved by the people behind her, and with a stumble, she fell over in the direction of Ye Yunting-——

Ye Yunting caught a glimpse of a person falling toward him from the corner of his eye, and subconsciously reached out to help her. Li Fengqi, who was in the wheelchair, narrowed his eyes slightly, flicked his right sleeve, and readied the long whip coiled on his arm for use. When he saw that she was just a woman of quite an old age, he retracted his raised right hand. His eyes fell on Ye Yunting.

The elderly lady accidentally sprained her foot, relying on Ye Yunting’s support to stabilize her body. Once she saw the person supporting her, she immediately knelt down and begged for mercy.

She originally just came to join the excitement; she didn’t expect to bump into the nobleman. Her weathered face was full of panic, and she looked at Ye Yunting with fearful eyes, so panicked that she couldn’t even say a single word.

The noisy voices around her gradually quieted down, and the people watching all broke into cold sweat for her.

Prince Yong’an was said to have a bad temper, and this young master seemed to be so close to Prince Yong’an. Although he appeared friendly, his temper might not be very good, either.

“No harm done.” Ye Yunting frowned and helped the kneeling woman up. His eyes scanned the surrounding crowd, and his frown deepened. He thought for a moment, cleared his throat and said aloud: “Everyone, please don’t gather on the main street, and don’t occupy the road. Things could get messy easily if too many people are crowded together.”

After saying this, he helped the old woman walk to an open space to prevent her from being pushed again, then turned back and nodded to everyone.

He looked like an amicable and handsome gentleman, with kind eyes and a smile on his lips. His voice was neither high nor low, but very pleasant to the ears. The people who were still whispering fell silent when they heard his voice.

But after a few moments, they stirred up again.

Everyone secretly felt that this young master looked like a good-tempered and very gracious person.

They followed Ye Yunting’s words and gradually dispersed, vacating the occupied road. But at the same time, there were also those who were bold enough to hide in the crowd and say loudly: “Is Wangye’s illness cured? We all hope that Wangye will recover soon, and go beat the crap out of those Xihuang brutes!”

Soon after the news of Prince Yong’an’s death by poisoning came out, some merchants who were doing business between the two countries brought back news that the people of Xihuang had also learned about Prince Yong’an’s poisoining, and that they said they would take down Weizhou and Yuzhou by winter this year.

Although the people of Beizhao were not as good at fighting as the people of Xihuang, they were were still hot-blooded. They hoped for Prince Yong’an’s fast recovery so that the arrogance of those people of Xihuang could be thwarted.

“Thank you to everyone for your concern. The Prince is no longer in any danger, and will be able to recover fully after clearing the residual poison and recuperating for a while.” Ye Yunting saluted with his hands to the surrounding area.

The people were overjoyed at his words and chorused auspicious words of congratulations.

After Ye Yunting thanked them, he pushed Li Fengqi towards the city gates.

The people watched them go away, then gathered together in small groups to talk in whispers.

Everyone was very curious about the identity of the handsome young man pushing Prince Yong’an.

It only made sense that with such outstanding looks and genteel demeanor, if he were to walk down Zhaohe Main Street a few times on ordinary days, everyone would definitely know which family that young master came from.

But now that the people were gathered together, they found that no one recognized which young master this was.

The chatterers looked at each other and exclaimed. Just as they were about to leave, they heard one person hesitantly say, “The pale fat attendant following the young master once bought pens and ink from me. He seems to be from the Duke of Qi’s house…”

The person who spoke was the shopkeeper of Qing Inkstone Store. He thought of the rumors he had heard a few days ago that the eldest son of the Duke of Qi was given the title of Wangfei, to be wed to Prince Yong’an who was dying of poisoning.

“Could it be that he’s the Wangfei?”

“No wonder!”

“The Astrology Tower Directorate is indeed miraculous. As soon as Wangfei entered the palace, Wangye got well.”

“Although Wangfei is a man, looking at him walking alongside Wangye, they seem to be surprisingly very well-matched…”

“…”

Once this guess came out, everyone expressed their opinions excitedly and spoke highly of the Wangfei. Many people also agreed that Yong’an Wang and Wangfei looked like a perfect match.

These comments reached Cui Xi’s ears, making his face so gloomy that it might as well be dripping with water.

The hands behind his back were clenched into fists. He cast a sinister look in the direction of the city gate and murmured in a low voice, “Prince Yong’an is really good at tactics. He even managed to conceal this from me.” His expression changed, and he thought of Ye Yunting who stood out in the crowd, and wondered about the extent of Young Master Ye’s involvement in today’s incident.

He closed his eyes and thought for a while, and realized that Prince Yong’an’s trap might have been laid from the moment Ye Yunting pretended to be sick. It was just that they had all been too careless and didn’t pay attention to that abandoned son. He recalled that day when he saw Ye Yunting feverish to the point of unconsciousness, and felt that it was not unreasonable to be put in this position.

Who would have thought that Master Ye, who looked so gentle and mild, would have this kind of ruthlessness in his bones.

That day when he went to see Ye Yunting for diagnosis, the medical officers he brought told him privately that Ye Yunting’s fever was too severe and his condition was very dangerous. If anything happened, even if his life was preserved, he could be permanently brain-damaged in the future.

If this illness had also been part of the plan, then he really underestimated these people.

“Fine.” Cui Xi’s gloomy expression swiftly improved again, and even brought a hint of gloating pleasure: “Although I had been deceived this time, Han Chan must have also fallen into the trap.” He narrowed his eyes; thinking of that hypocrite’s furious appearance made him happy. “It’s time for another good show.”

He bent down to enter the carriage, kicked the kneeling guard out of the vehicle, picked up the jade scepter again, leaned against the carriage wall, and started playing with it leisurely. “Continue onward to the Prince’s palace.”

Cui Xi and his people followed the emperor’s instructions and continued to decorate the Yong’an Palace.

As for the guard who was kicked off the carriage, he hurriedly mounted his horse and headed back to the palace to report the news, unheeding of his bleeding mouth and nose.

Meanwhile, Li Fengqi and Ye Yunting had already arrived at the city gates and were waiting.

The two of them were in front, while Ji Lian, Wu Geng and others were behind them.

The sun gradually set towards the west, with half of it hanging in the sky and half of it already hidden under the ground. The orange-red haze spread slowly, illuminating the world with a warm color.

Ye Yunting looked at the end of the official road and saw a carriage and several horses coming towards the city gate from a distance.

“The party in front should be it.” He took a deep breath, not letting his nervousness show up in his voice.

He had heard some rumors about the elder princess, but he couldn’t tell the truth from the lies.

He only knew that her name was Shen Wanyu, and that she was the legitimate daughter of the Shen family in Niyang. Back then, the Shen family hadn’t completely fallen in ruins, and Shen Wanyu was quite famous in Shangjing. She had been approached by countless princes and nobles for marriage, but in the end she married the old Prince Yong’an.

The old Prince of Yong’an, Li Huaiqu, was a military general with rude manners and no strong family support behind him. He relied on his outstanding military exploits and meritorious service in protecting the emperor, so he was given the title of prince by the grace of Emperor Chengzong.

After the two got married, their relationship grew very deep. The old Prince Yong’an never took a concubine in his whole life, and there was only ever one princess in the palace.

Later on, the old Prince Yong’an passed away early due to a complication from an old injury. Shortly after Li Fengqi, his only son, was granted equal title, the old Wangfei moved to Rongyang to recuperate.

Although Ye Yunting never paid much attention when he heard about it in the past, now that he’d seen and listened a lot more around Li Fengqi, he could vaguely tell that his relationship with his mother indeed didn’t seem to be very good.

Li Fengqi’s attitude towards the elder Wangfei was even more difficult to determine. He seemed to regard her closely, but not closely as well. He seemed to be familiar with her but not particularly familiar, either.

All in all, it was weird.

Ye Yunting looked at the carriage that was getting closer and closer, and wondered inwardly on what kind of attitude he would take in greeting the elder Wangfei

He was busy thinking to himself, not noticing that the person beside him looked sideways at him for a long time and saw the uncertainty in his eyes.

“Mother should have already known about our marriage. She…” Li Fengqi hesitated for a moment and tried his best to find a more appropriate word. “…never cared about trivial matters, and devoted herself to Buddha. She shouldn’t be hard on you. Just follow my lead.”

After a pause, he added, “You don’t have to worry too much.”

Ye Yunting had blushed a little when he guessed where his thoughts centered on, but after hearing Li Fengqi’s words, his mind was occupied by doubts again.

She never cared about trivial matters?

He glanced at Li Fengqi vaguely, thinking: how could this son’s lifelong affair be a trivial matter to his mother?

But he was keenly aware of the strangeness in Li Fengqi’s tone, so he only responded in a low voice, but did not voice his doubts.

In the time that the two spent talking, the carriage had already arrived at the gates of the city. The horse pulling the carriage stopped with a whinny, and then the curtain was rolled up. A young woman got out of the carriage first, reaching out to help the person in the car down.
